Germany 2007
Questions have been raised in the press as to
whether the traditional Mosel style of low alcohol, off dry,
refreshing Kabinetts and Spätlese wines could ever be produced
again in this era of global warming. 2007 has provided the answer
with what Christoph Schaefer described as “A classic Riesling
vintage with minerality and balance”. “We are all
happy”, added Martin Kerpen, and “It is a
quintessential Mosel vintage,’ according to Dirk Richter. We
love the balance and elegance in the Kabinett and Spätlese wines
and also the very clean, pure botrytis in the few higher prädikat
wines that were produced. This offer concentrates on the Mosel
(including Saar and Ruwer whose wines are now lumped in the general
Mosel region as opposed to the old Mosel-Saar-Ruwer designation)
together with those from arguably Germany’s greatest grower,
Helmut Dönnhoff of the Nahe, and the slightly fuller wines of the
Rheingau and Gunderloch, just across the Rhein at Nackenheim in the
Rheinhessen.
